ASME Code Fabrication - Only the highest standards
IMC is capable of typical and atypical code fabrication utilizing any type of carbon steel or non-ferrous metals. IMC has been an ASME certified shop since 1976.

We currently have certifications under the following stamps (plant & field):
  •  U       Pressure Vessels Division 1
  •  S       Power Boilers Section 1
  •  R       Repair of Vessels (Plant & Field Locations on All Stamps) NBIC

We are also fully qualified and experienced in the fabrication of boilers, pressure vessels and storage tanks. Our welders are certified and our shop is ASME and AWS approved for tankage.

ASME work requires the highest standards of quality and is accepted throughout the world.

Structural Steel Fabrication
Our steel fabrication department excels in atypical and custom projects to suit our customer's needs. We have gained extensive experience in the manufacture of components and equipment for the scrap processing industry, oil field drilling, mining, cement making, pollution control, refining and smaller manufacturing companies.

Excelling in the fabrication of large, complex structural steel projects, IMC was selected to fabricate the massive suspension roof trusses for the Alamodome complex in San Antonio. This project entailed approximately 20 miles of full penetration welding that was 100% ultrasonically tested. In addition, IMC has built conveyor trusses and bridge trusses for numerous industries.

Heavy Steel Weldments

Industrial Mechanical has been a leader in heavy plate fabrication for 30 years. IMC has produced over 65 automobile scrap shredders since 1982. In addition to shredders, IMC has produced heavy steel scrap shears (up to 800 metric tons of force) for the scrap industry.

Other industries served include the renovation of tunnel boring machines for the tunneling industry, rotor repairs and crushers for the cement industry, and dump hoppers and dump bodies for the mining industry.

Machining
Our machining department is capable of performing most of the machining that a customer may require. This portion of our division was formed in July of 1980 and has continued to grow requiring the constant additional investment in modern equipment; some of which is CNC. Our experience in heavy-duty machining has established us with many large manufacturing and cement companies. We also take pride in the machining services that we provide for numerous smaller companies engaged in mining, trucking and manufacturing.

The exceptional quality that Industrial Mechanical is known for requires extra effort. In order to control costs and slash lead-times, we perform most of our machining in-house.

Our equipment includes: Lathes of various sizes from 13" diameter toolroom lathe, to a 60" swing by 18' bed engine lathe, a 55" swing vertical mills and vertical machining centers to a horizontal boring mill with a 5' square machining envelope and state-of-the-art CNC controls.

We are equipped with numerous grinding machines and attachments to perform surface and diameter grinding operations. For fabrications too large to put on a conventional machine, we have portable machining equipment to perform line-boring and facing.

Ductwork
IMC has the versatility to build products for a number of different industries. Many of our customers are in cement making, aluminum, refining/smelting and steel production. These process industries require a substantial amount of ductwork to very complex cyclones for use by these industries. The sizes vary depending in the project, but can range from small diameter light gauge duct to large diameter heavy walled duct.

Some examples of our versatile ductwork include self-cleaning ells and reducing ells (both round and rectangular) as well as transition, gates, cones (eccentric an concentric), tees and wye ("Y") ducts in all diameters.

Sandblasting & Painting
After fabrication, many of our projects require sandblasting and painting. IMC has a state-of-the-art painting facility with a new media recovery room. The facility has an OSHA and EPA approved baghouse and paint booth. The facility is climate controlled allowing year-round painting regardless of the ambient temperature.

IMC has the experience to paint with all types of coating from simple oxide primers to the more exotic polyurethanes.
